Julius AI: Review
Julius AI reviewed for spreadsheets, databases and business reporting, with current features, notebook changes, security limits and alternatives.
Published

Julius AI is worth considering when you regularly turn business data into checked charts and reports. It needs closer scrutiny as a recurring reporting system: Plus, Pro and Business list 7-day file storage, and Julius is sunsetting Notebooks. Buy it for a workflow you can validate, not simply because it can answer questions about a spreadsheet.
Features, pricing and data-handling pages verified on 15 October 2026. This is a documentation-based evaluation, not a hands-on product test. The workflows below are proposed operating procedures, not measured results.
What Is Julius AI?
Julius AI is a cloud workspace where you upload files or connect data, ask questions in ordinary language, and have AI write and run the analysis code behind charts, tables and reports. It can work across spreadsheet tabs and turn findings into presentations. The useful distinction is the sequence from source data to a deliverable someone can review; it does not remove the need to define revenue, churn or a qualified lead correctly. Its data-analysis page describes the file, charting and statistical capabilities.
Julius AI Alternatives: Who Should Use It and Who Should Skip It?
Julius AI fits an operator or analyst who repeatedly moves from a business question to source data, calculations and a shareable explanation. A founder with recurring pipeline and retention questions is a better fit than someone who needs a single formula repaired.
The evaluation turns on five criteria: access to the right source, inspectable calculations, repeatable instructions, useful deliverables, and the amount of human checking left over. The comparison assesses workflow fit; it does not establish an accuracy ranking.
Those are workflow recommendations, not a claim that one product alone can calculate, make slides or schedule work. OpenAI documents a data-to-dashboard workflow, and Anthropic documents code execution and file creation.
Julius AI vs ChatGPT: An Occasional Export Usually Does Not Justify Another Tool
ChatGPT is enough when the job is to inspect an uploaded sales export, calculate a segment breakdown and produce a chart you can verify. If you already use it and the source is a manageable file, another subscription must remove a specific recurring burden.
OpenAI's current example also describes scheduled source checks for a dashboard in ChatGPT Work. Scheduling therefore cannot be the sole reason to choose Julius. Compare how each handles your source, review process and recurring instructions, including what your account actually exposes.
For a founder asking why last month's bookings fell, start with the assistant already available. Switch only if keeping that analysis organized and repeatable becomes the expensive part.
Claude Is Enough When the Output Is a Memo, Workbook or Deck
Claude can run code on uploaded data, create charts, and generate Excel spreadsheets, Word documents, PDFs and PowerPoint presentations. That makes it a credible choice for an analyst who needs an explanatory memo and an editable file from the same source. File creation draws on the account's usage limits; it is not unlimited reporting capacity. Claude's file-creation documentation describes these capabilities.
Skip Julius if your existing assistant already completes the job with acceptable checking effort. If the work must happen inside the workbook, rather than around an uploaded copy, use our best AI for Excel comparison to choose by the spreadsheet task.
Julius AI for Data Analysis: Start With Files and Connections
Julius AI's first useful capability is bringing a question to the data without requiring the operator to write the query. Its supported upload formats include Excel, CSV, Google Sheets, images, PDFs, Word documents and text files; the Business page also lists Parquet. For a multi-tab workbook, name the relevant tabs instead of asking it to infer which sheets belong together.
A file upload is a snapshot. A database connection can query the source again. That difference matters more than whether both routes produce the same attractive chart today.
The Connections Julius Actually Lists
Julius's connector documentation lists PostgreSQL, MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, Snowflake, Google BigQuery, Supabase, Google Ads and Meta Ads. Its pricing page also lists Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive and SharePoint. A Google Sheets input is separately documented on the data-analysis page.
These are the published names, not a promise that every connection has identical permissions or is included in every plan. The pricing comparison lists database connections on paid individual plans, so database access should not automatically be treated as Business-only.
For a database, the documented setup starts in profile Settings, then Data Connectors. Julius uses the supplied credentials, turns a plain-language request into SQL, the language databases use for queries, and analyzes the returned results. Ask the database owner to provide access appropriate to the job and a defined set of tables. A connection is not a substitute for knowing which table contains the approved business metric.
Business Job: Sales Pipeline Review
A sales operator should begin with opportunity ID, account, owner, stage, amount, expected close date and a snapshot date. Add stage-history data if the question involves movement between stages. A current-state export can show today's pipeline; it cannot reconstruct every transition that happened during the month.
A useful request is:
Compare open pipeline by owner and expected close month. Separate new, won and lost opportunities from changes in existing opportunities. Flag missing amounts and past-due close dates. Show the source rows behind each exception, and do not infer stage conversion without history.
The output to ask for is a pipeline chart, a reconciled total and an exception list for the sales meeting. The exception list is the action: which opportunities need a new date, which amounts need correction, and which owner needs a follow-up.
Before using the chart, reconcile the total to the CRM export and check whether the same opportunity appears more than once. If an accounts table has several contacts per account, a careless join can multiply opportunity values. An AI-generated query can run successfully and still make that mistake.
Use Julius here when the review repeats and the source or joins are cumbersome. For one clean export and a simple chart, ChatGPT or Claude may already be enough.
Julius AI Data Visualization: Make the Chart Answer a Defined Question
Julius AI can create charts with requested variables, labels and styling, and its analysis page lists cleaning, statistical modeling and forecasting. The buying question is whether the calculation behind the chart is easy to inspect. A polished chart of the wrong denominator is still the wrong answer. Julius's analysis capabilities establish what is offered, not how accurate a particular result will be.
Julius AI for Statistics: Cohort and Churn Analysis
For a subscription business, a cohort is a group of customers who started in the same period. The point is to compare customers at the same age, rather than punish a newer group for having fewer months of history.
Supply a stable customer ID, subscription start date, cancellation or end date, billing periods and the revenue definition. Specify whether churn means losing a customer, losing recurring revenue or failing to renew. Those questions produce different numbers.
A workable request is:
Group customers by their first paid month. Compare retention at the same number of completed months after signup. Show the original cohort sizes and exclude observation periods that have not finished. Calculate customer retention separately from revenue retention, and list the rules used for reactivations and refunds.
Ask for a cohort heatmap and the underlying count table. Then inspect customers on the boundaries: a cancellation at month-end, a paused subscription, a reactivation and a refund. These cases expose definition errors more quickly than debating the colors of the heatmap.
The business payoff is knowing whether a cohort is weakening before changing onboarding or acquisition. It is not evidence that a particular onboarding change caused the difference. Causal claims need an appropriate comparison or experiment; a statistical tool does not create one from an observational spreadsheet.
Business Job: Marketing Spend Review
A growth lead can use the listed Google Ads or Meta Ads connections, or upload campaign exports. Add the lead or customer outcome data needed to judge the spend. Cheap clicks are not the same as profitable customers.
Ask Julius to compare spend with qualified leads and customers using a declared attribution window, currency and reporting timezone. Require unmatched campaign IDs to appear in an exception list. A campaign with delayed conversions should not be judged against another campaign whose conversion window has already matured.
A useful prompt is:
Join campaign spend to qualified leads using the supplied campaign mapping. Keep unmatched records visible. Compare cost per qualified lead by campaign for completed attribution windows, and distinguish measured results from proposed explanations.
Use a chart of spend against qualified outcomes, then examine the underlying rows before changing budgets. The analysis should end with a short list of campaigns to investigate, not an unsupported instruction to move all spending to the lowest apparent cost.
Julius earns its place if the same mapping and review recur. If the task stops at charting one advertising export, a general assistant remains a reasonable choice.
Repeatable Work: Julius Is Sunsetting Notebooks
Julius AI's former Notebooks product page now redirects to an announcement that the feature is being sunset. The company's current recommendation is to move the instructions and prompts into chat; existing users can contact its team from their account email for help exporting notebooks. This is a material workflow change, not a minor interface detail. Read Julius's Notebook retirement notice.
A notebook traditionally keeps an analysis in explicit steps. A detailed chat request can describe those same steps, but a buyer should verify that the resulting workflow is sufficiently repeatable for their reporting requirements. Do not buy Julius on the assumption that an older notebook tutorial describes the current product.
Julius still advertises Scheduled Runs for recurring reporting on its report-generator page. The practical distinction is between retaining the instructions and refreshing the source. Repeating an analysis against an old upload does not make the input current.
Business Job: Inventory Review
For an inventory operator, supply SKU, location, available stock, open purchase orders, supplier lead time and sales history. Include stockout periods if available: sales during an empty-shelf period understate the demand that might have existed.
The request should produce a review queue:
Estimate stock coverage using the supplied demand window. Flag items whose coverage is shorter than supplier lead time, account for open purchase orders, and keep stockout periods separate from ordinary low demand. Show the assumptions and source rows for every proposed reorder.
This is a good recurring job because the question stays similar while the inputs change. It is a poor candidate for unattended purchasing until an operator has validated the treatment of seasonality, minimum order quantities and missing stock records.
Write a repeatable instruction set
Specify the source, column meanings, date window, exclusions, calculations, required charts and exception rules. Keep a copy outside the conversation so it can be reviewed and reused.
Validate one complete run
Reconcile stock and sales totals to the source. Check a known stockout and an item with an incoming purchase order. Ask for the calculations behind each reorder suggestion.
Verify the recurring setup
Confirm that Scheduled Runs is available for the intended account and that each execution reads refreshed inputs. Check timezone, failure behavior, output access and the applicable allowance in the current interface.
Keep a human decision point
Have the scheduled output create a review list. Let the inventory owner approve purchasing decisions after examining exceptions.
Adopt the recurring workflow only after it survives a source change, such as a renamed column, a missing file or an expired connection. A successful first chart says little about how the next unattended run will fail.
Reports and Presentations: Build a Monthly Board Pack
Julius AI can turn computed results into a report containing prose, tables and charts, then help create a presentation. Its report page describes editable, shareable outputs, while its presentation page lists PowerPoint, PDF, PNG and Google Slides export options. That combination suits an operator who spends the end of each month assembling the same evidence for leadership.
A monthly board pack is where presentation polish can most easily hide an analytical error. Start with approved finance and operating exports, a metric dictionary and the previous report. Keep actuals, forecasts and management explanations clearly distinguished.
A useful instruction is:
Build the monthly operating pack from these approved sources. Reconcile revenue and cash figures before drafting commentary. For every chart, state the period, units and metric definition. Separate observed changes from hypotheses, show missing inputs, and preserve an appendix of the calculations and source references.
The pack should answer what changed, what needs a decision and what remains uncertain. For example, a revenue increase alongside weaker customer retention requires an explanation of customer mix or expansion revenue, not a celebratory sentence generated from the headline alone.
Use the reporting workflow in this order: agree the definitions, compute and reconcile the metrics, review the exceptions, then create the narrative and slides. If a chart changes during slide editing, verify the number and the sentence describing it together.
Keep the final source files and approved outputs in the company's normal reporting archive. The analysis workspace should not become the only place a future reviewer can find the evidence.
Choose Julius for the board pack when gathering, analyzing and refreshing the evidence is the recurring burden. Choose Claude when the sources are already clean and the remaining work is primarily producing editable documents and slides. Both routes require someone to own the final numbers.
Julius AI Pricing: Which Plan Fits This Reader?
Julius AI's live pricing page on 15 October 2026 lists Free at $0, Plus at $20/month, Pro at $45/month, and Business at $450/month, with Enterprise by quotation. With annual billing, the displayed monthly equivalents are $16 for Plus, $37 for Pro and $375 for Business. Those annual figures require annual billing; they are not the monthly subscription prices. Current Julius pricing.
For an operator buying recurring reporting, Pro is the individual plan to evaluate: the pricing comparison lists three Scheduled Runs on Pro and none on Plus. That is a feature allowance, not a statement that you can execute only three reports per month. Plus is the starting point for manual analysis, with 2,000 monthly credits and 16 GB of RAM; Pro lists 5,000 and 32 GB. The $25/month premium buys 2.5 times the base monthly credits and twice the RAM, alongside the listed scheduling access. Compare these plan allowances.
The cost per useful output depends on how much work reaches approval. As an illustrative budget, four accepted reports in a month allocate $11.25 of a Pro subscription to each report. That is $45 divided by four, assuming the work fits the allowance; it excludes review labor and is not a measured generation cost. Julius's credit documentation says usage varies with the model, action and task complexity, so there is no defensible fixed credits-per-report promise.
Business becomes relevant for collaboration: the pricing page lists up to 50 team members. Plus, Pro and Business all list seven-day file storage; permanent file storage appears under Enterprise. The pricing comparison lists unlimited Scheduled Runs for Business, while its Business FAQ still says up to three. Treat the live pricing comparison as the purchase reference, and confirm that the current account supports the recurring workflow you intend to run.
The Limitations That Matter Before Adoption
Julius AI's limits are not just about whether it can produce a chart. They concern how much checking remains, whether an analysis survives the next reporting period, and what data the service is suitable to receive.
A Correctly Executed Calculation Can Still Answer the Wrong Question
A model may use the wrong join, treat a missing value as zero or compare incomplete periods. Executing code makes arithmetic inspectable; it does not certify the business definition. The minimum useful deliverable is therefore the answer plus its denominator, exclusions and source reconciliation.
For pipeline review, check duplicated opportunities. For churn, check cohort age. For advertising, check attribution timing. For inventory, check stockouts. For the board pack, reconcile the approved totals. If nobody can perform those checks, Julius does not turn the output into an approved operating metric.
Credits Do Not Translate Into a Guaranteed Number of Reports
The credit documentation explicitly makes consumption depend on task complexity, tools and model choice. Repeated corrections and a large multi-step report can consume more than a short question. Unused credits expire at the end of the billing cycle.
The practical trial is a complete reporting job, including revisions, rather than a quick successful prompt. Record usage for an accepted output before making a recurring workload commitment. Annual credits are granted upfront, so do not treat an annual purchase as a monthly replenishment schedule.
Storage and Notebook Retirement Complicate Monthly Reuse
Seven-day file storage on Plus, Pro and Business is shorter than a monthly reporting cycle. Retain source files elsewhere and verify how they will be supplied again. Moving from Pro to Business does not resolve that limit: the pricing comparison places permanent file storage under Enterprise. Even that should not replace the company's archive and retention rules.
Notebook retirement adds a migration dependency. A saved step sequence from an older tutorial may need to become a chat instruction set. Scheduled reporting remains advertised, but the account's current setup and limits need to be demonstrated before the workflow becomes operational.
Security Claims Do Not Mean Zero Retention or Permission to Upload Anything
Julius states on its security page that it is SOC 2 Type II and TX-RAMP compliant, encrypts data in transit and at rest, isolates customer information, and does not use customer data to train internal or external models. It says AI providers are contractually bound by the training restriction. Those are the vendor's statements; this review did not inspect its audit reports.
The same page says uploaded files and outputs are stored, and that authorized personnel may access data in exceptional circumstances such as troubleshooting, with monitoring and logging. Its description of ephemeral processing must not be shortened to “nothing is retained.” Processing data, stored uploads and account information have different lifecycles.
A particularly important limitation appears in the privacy policy: it asks users not to submit sensitive personal data, including health information, biometrics and social security numbers. A security badge does not override that instruction. For the business jobs above, remove unnecessary personal fields and use customer or account identifiers where names and contact details are not required.
The security page describes US storage and processing. The privacy policy has broader language allowing international transfers of personal information through service providers, and says some information may be retained for legal or business purposes. It also offers a data-processing addendum and links a subprocessor list. An organization with a residency or deletion requirement should resolve that scope in its agreement instead of treating the marketing page as a blanket guarantee.
The Public Pages Are Not Fully Consistent
The pricing page caps Business membership while its Business FAQ says members can be invited without a stated cap. The credit documentation includes an annual Pro example that disagrees with the current price page, and older notebook-based instructions coexist with the retirement notice.
These inconsistencies do not establish that the product cannot do the job. They do mean you should confirm the entitlement that makes your purchase worthwhile. A broad “supports recurring analysis” claim is insufficient if your decision depends on a particular schedule allowance, retention period or shared connection.
Julius AI Review Verdict: Adopt It for a Verified Recurring Job
Julius AI is a credible candidate for an operator who repeatedly turns connected business data into charts, explanations and reports. The strongest case is reducing the work between those stages while keeping the calculations reviewable.
The decision rule is explicit: choose Julius only when a complete, checked workflow is easier to repeat there than in your existing assistant, and the plan's credits, retention and recurring-run setup fit that workflow. Choose ChatGPT for an occasional export analysis. Choose Claude when the main remaining job is assembling editable documents and slides. Wait on Julius if the purchase depends on the old Notebooks interface or unresolved data-handling requirements.
The Monday move is to take one already-approved pipeline or monthly report, remove unnecessary personal data, and reproduce it with the same metric definitions. Compare the reconciliation, exceptions, editing effort and credit use. Only then decide whether the next report belongs in Julius.
Frequently Asked Questions
What company owns Julius AI?
The service's privacy policy identifies its operator as Julius AI Inc. That is the company name used in its current legal policy.
What are the AI tools for data analysis?
Julius AI, OpenAI ChatGPT and Anthropic Claude all offer ways to analyze supplied data and create visual outputs. Choose by source access, reviewability and the deliverable you need, rather than the ability to produce a chart alone.
What are the different pricing plans for Julius AI?
The main pricing page lists Free, Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise. The pricing section above gives the verified monthly and annual-billing figures. Check the live plan page before purchasing because allowances and documentation can change.
Is Julius AI safe?
Julius publishes encryption, access-control, no-training and compliance statements. Suitability still depends on your data: its privacy policy asks users not to submit sensitive personal data, and uploaded files are stored. Review those conditions before connecting a business source.
Is Julius AI completely free?
A Free plan exists with daily credits, but higher usage and additional capabilities require a paid plan. Free access is suitable for evaluating a bounded task; it is not a promise of unlimited analysis or reports.
What is Julius AI best for?
Its strongest fit is repeated analysis that must become a reviewable chart or report: sales pipeline, cohort retention, campaign spend, inventory exceptions and a monthly operating pack. It still needs clearly defined metrics and a person responsible for checking the result.
Who is behind Julius AI?
Rahul Sonwalkar is identified as Julius AI's founder and CEO on the company's Y Combinator profile.
How does Julius AI work?
You upload a file or connect a supported source, describe the question, and Julius writes and runs the analysis code or database query. It can turn results into charts and reports. Check the source selection, definitions and calculations before relying on the conclusion.
What are some alternatives to Julius AI?
ChatGPT is a sensible first option for occasional file analysis; Claude is a strong alternative when the output is an editable report, workbook or deck. If the job must stay inside Excel, compare the workbook-focused options linked earlier in this review.
