Notion Pricing (2026): Free for Solo, $20 for AI

Notion costs $0 for Free, $10 per member each month for Plus, or $20 per member each month for Business when billed yearly. Solo users can stay free; most collaborating teams should start on Plus; Business earns its double price only when included AI or governance is worth at least $10 per active member each month. Custom Agents and Workers are metered separately, so the Business sticker price is not always the final AI bill.

Notion pricing at a glance

These prices were verified against Notion's live pricing page and billing documentation on 3 August 2026. The yearly figures below are monthly equivalents paid as an annual commitment, not month-to-month contracts.

The prices are simple until automation and seat changes enter the bill. Plus is $120 per member per year and Business is $240. Notion charges for members in each paid workspace, while guests remain free but receive access only to invited pages rather than normal teamspace access.

The blunt recommendation is Free for solo use, Plus for collaboration, Business for full AI, and Enterprise for required controls. Paying for Business merely because it says AI is a poor purchase. Name the workflow, calculate its monthly value, and compare that value with the premium first.

Which Notion plan should you choose?

Choose Free when one person needs a flexible personal workspace. An individual gets unlimited pages and blocks, basic databases, one chart, basic forms and sites, 10 guests, and trial access to AI. The meaningful ceilings are 5 MB per uploaded file, 7 days of page history, and limited AI responses.

Choose Plus when two or more members need to collaborate. Plus removes the collaborative block ceiling, raises the effective file ceiling to about 5 GB per file, extends history to 30 days, and includes unlimited guests and charts. It does not provide full Notion AI. Upgrading from Free to Plus does not refresh the limited AI allowance.

Choose Business when full AI or tighter governance has a named return. Business includes Notion Agent, AI Meeting Notes, Enterprise Search beta, SAML SSO, private teamspaces, verified pages, and granular database permissions. It extends page history to 90 days. That bundle costs twice as much as Plus on either billing cadence.

Choose Enterprise when a control is mandatory rather than merely useful. SCIM provisioning, audit logs, advanced security, domain management, DLP and SIEM connections, unlimited history, and zero data retention with LLM providers are procurement requirements for some organizations. If none is on a written requirement list, custom Enterprise pricing is unlikely to be the rational starting point.

The cleanest break-even is the Plus to Business premium. On yearly billing, Business must return at least $10 per active member per month beyond Plus. On monthly billing, the threshold is $12 per member per month. A ten-member team therefore pays $1,200 a year for Plus or $2,400 for Business. The annual Business premium is $1,200.

That threshold is more useful than a feature count. If meeting capture, workspace search, and AI drafting together avoid at least $100 of work each month across a ten-person team, Business clears its subscription premium. If the team already pays for an AI product it will keep, or only two people use Notion AI, Business is much harder to justify because all ten members still create paid seats.

The more detailed Notion review covers product fit, offline behavior, and workflow limits. For pricing alone, start with Plus unless Free clearly covers the job or a Business-only capability has already earned its premium on paper.

What the Notion free plan really allows

Notion Free is genuinely sufficient for a solo knowledge system. One person can create unlimited pages and blocks, use databases with subtasks and dependencies, publish pages, collect basic form responses, connect calendars, invite up to 10 guests, and try a limited set of AI responses.

The phrase “unlimited pages” needs one qualification. A Free workspace remains unlimited for an individual, but a workspace with two or more members has a collaborative block limit. Once it is reached, the team can still read, edit, and organize existing content, but it cannot add new blocks until it upgrades or returns to a qualifying setup.

The practical stops are easier to feel than the page count:

• A 5 MB file ceiling rules out many slide decks, videos, design exports, and large PDFs.
• Seven days of history gives a narrow recovery window after an accidental edit or deletion.
• One chart is enough to try dashboards, not to run a reporting layer.
• AI is a limited trial rather than an ongoing personal AI subscription.
• Offline use requires choosing pages to download, while paid plans automatically download recent and favorite pages.

Who never needs to pay? A solo user keeping notes, reading lists, goals, a lightweight task database, and small attachments can remain on Free indefinitely. Ten invited guests also make it workable for occasional client or contractor review. Free stops being the honest answer when another internal teammate needs normal workspace membership, when larger files and longer history matter, or when ongoing AI is part of the job.

Do not classify employees as guests merely to avoid seat charges. Guests are designed for external collaborators and can access only pages that are individually shared with them. They do not receive normal access to the team's workspace structure.

Monthly versus annual Notion pricing

Yearly billing saves 16.7% at the current USD rates. Plus falls from $12 to a $10 monthly equivalent, saving $24 per seat per year. Business falls from $24 to $20, saving $48 per seat per year.

For ten seats, the comparison is:

• Plus costs $1,200 yearly or $1,440 across 12 monthly payments.
• Business costs $2,400 yearly or $2,880 across 12 monthly payments.
• The yearly commitment saves $240 on Plus or $480 on Business.

The annual discount is worth taking for a stable team. Monthly billing is the better risk control during a hiring freeze, a merger, a short implementation, or any period when member count could contract. Notion recalculates seats at renewal, not whenever a member is removed.

That creates the annual-lock trap. Additions are prorated when they consume a new paid seat. Removals do not create a mid-cycle credit, although the vacated seat can be assigned to someone else until renewal. If a Plus seat becomes idle after the first month of an annual term and cannot be reused, as much as $110 of its prepaid value remains exposed. The comparable Business figure is $220. Those amounts are not new charges; they are the maximum unused value on the existing commitment.

What Notion AI costs in 2026

Core Notion AI is included with Business and Enterprise, not Plus. Free and Plus receive a limited number of complimentary responses. Business and Enterprise cover Notion Agent, AI Meeting Notes, Research Mode, image generation, and search across the workspace and eligible connected tools.

Included does not mean usage can never pause. Notion's AI FAQ says a workspace that goes beyond its usage allowance may see a temporary pause. Access can refresh automatically, or a Business or Enterprise owner can let the team use Notion credits to continue sooner.

Two automation products use those credits separately:

Custom Agents cost by outcome

Custom Agents cost $10 per 1,000 monthly Notion credits after the trial. They run recurring or triggered tasks and are available on Business and Enterprise. Their cost changes with the model, complexity, number of steps, and frequency, so a credit pack is not a fixed number of completed workflows.

Notion publishes useful outcome ranges. A Q&A agent costs about $0.03 to $0.11 per run, task routing $0.05 to $0.15, status updates $0.08 to $0.18, mail triage $0.04 to $0.10, and a daily brief $0.10 to $0.30. At those ranges, $10 buys about 90 to 333 Q&A runs, 65 to 190 routed tasks, 57 to 133 status updates, 100 to 250 mail-triage runs, or 33 to 100 daily briefs.

The right budget unit is a successful outcome. One hundred task-routing runs cost about $5 to $15 before accounting for failed or low-value outcomes. Sixty status updates cost $4.80 to $10.80. A cheap run is still waste if the rule fires on the wrong records, so test representative tasks before enabling a high-frequency schedule. Workers are free now, metered from 15 October

Notion Workers remain free during beta on Business and Enterprise until 15 October 2026. From that date, they begin consuming Notion credits. Notion's current estimate is $0.0023 for a typical run, which makes a $10 pack roughly 4,348 runs.

Frequency turns that tiny run price into a budget. Notion estimates one daily sync at $0.07 each month, hourly at $1.66, and every 15 minutes at $6.62. Three hourly syncs are therefore about $4.98 a month. Three 15-minute syncs are about $19.86. A webhook or agent tool that executes more work per invocation can cost materially more than a basic sync, so do not forecast every Worker at the typical rate.

The key distinction is simple: Business includes the human-facing Notion AI experience, while scheduled Custom Agents and Workers draw from a metered credit balance. A team buying Business for AI should budget those two layers separately.

Do not confuse the public Notion API with hosted Workers. The plan grid lists the public API, webhooks, embeds and link previews, and connected properties across plans. Workers run custom code inside Notion's hosted environment and are the part scheduled to consume credits on Business and Enterprise from 15 October. That app-versus-code split is why an integration can use the API without buying Worker runs, while a Worker budget belongs beside the automation budget rather than the seat price.

The hidden Notion costs most likely to change the bill

Auto Adjust is a recurring plan increase

Notion credit packs can use an optional Auto Adjust setting. It is off by default, but when enabled and triggered near the usage limit, it raises the workspace's monthly credit amount for the current and following billing periods. It is not a one-time top-up.

This is the most consequential hidden-cost rule in the current documentation. Each later trigger can raise the recurring credit amount again, up to the configured spending cap. Lowering the next period's credit amount does not disable Auto Adjust; the owner must turn Auto Adjust off separately.

The current official credit pages do not promise that unused credits roll over, and they do not publish an expiry rule. Treat both behaviors as unspecified. Do not approve a large recurring credit amount on an assumption about future availability; confirm the purchase terms shown inside the workspace or with Notion support.

A custom domain is another recurring add-on

Free includes one notion.site domain and paid plans include up to five. A paid plan can connect an existing domain to a Notion Site and remove Notion branding for $8 per month per domain billed annually or $10 monthly. Notion does not sell the domain itself. Each additional domain needs its own add-on, so three annually billed custom domains add $24 a month to the workspace before registrar fees.

Separate workspaces can bill the same person twice

Notion plans apply at workspace level. One account can belong to several workspaces, each with its own plan. If a person is a member of two paid workspaces, both can bill for that member. A company split into departmental workspaces should compare that duplication with one workspace divided into teamspaces and permission groups.

Mobile purchases complicate credits and refunds

A Plus subscription bought through iOS or Android is limited to a one-member workspace and managed through Apple or Google. A mobile subscriber that needs a multi-member plan or wants to purchase Notion credits directly may have to cancel the store subscription, wait for it to end, then upgrade on web or desktop.

For a mistaken plan purchase made online or in-app, Notion offers a full refund if the customer downgrades within three days of monthly signup or 30 days of annual signup. Accidental member charges can be refunded when the member is removed and support is contacted within three days of the invoice. Purchased credits are refundable only if none of those purchased credits have been used.

Notion versus ClickUp and Superhuman Docs on price

ClickUp is cheaper per seat when project control matters more than a shared docs-and-wiki context. Its Unlimited plan costs $7 per user each month on yearly billing, and Business costs $12. A ten-person team therefore pays $70 or $120 a month in yearly equivalents, compared with $100 for Notion Plus or $200 for Notion Business.

That base-plan comparison is not a clean AI comparison. ClickUp lists Brain AI separately at $9 per user each month and Everything AI at $28, plus AI credits at $10 per 10,000. Notion Business includes its core AI experience but meters Custom Agents and Workers. Choose ClickUp when workload, time, and project controls justify the heavier project system, not merely because the first number is lower.

Coda, now branded Superhuman Docs on its pricing page, can be dramatically cheaper when a few builders support many collaborators. Pro costs $12 per Doc Maker each month yearly or $15 monthly. Business is $33 yearly or $40 monthly. Editors and viewers are free.

For ten collaborators with three paid Doc Makers, Pro costs $36 a month on yearly billing and Business costs $99. Notion charges all ten members, producing $100 on Plus or $200 on Business. The maker model is a clear price win when a small operator group builds and the rest mainly edit or view.

The exact flip is useful. Against ten Notion Plus seats, Superhuman Docs Pro stays cheaper through eight Doc Makers at $96, then becomes more expensive at nine makers at $108. Against ten Notion Business seats, Superhuman Docs Business stays cheaper through six makers at $198, then flips at seven makers at $231.

This comparison is about billing structure, not feature parity. Superhuman Docs is the price pick when builder roles can remain scarce. Its weakness is the operating discipline that model requires: formulas, automations, and Doc Maker permissions need clear owners. Notion is simpler when most teammates actively create workspace structure and shared knowledge. ClickUp is the better value when project mechanics, rather than documents, are the center of work.

Notion discounts, trials, and price history

Eligible university students and teachers can get a one-member Plus workspace free. The institution must be accredited in the World Higher Education Database, and the applicant needs an eligible school email. K-12 students and educators are not eligible. Verified student organizations can receive free Plus with unlimited members; Education Plus includes up to 100 guests, unlimited uploads, and 30-day history.

Organizations and teams may be eligible for a 30-day Business trial. That is enough time to price a real workflow, but the test should measure saved work per member and credit burn per useful automated outcome. A trial that merely generates a few documents does not answer whether ten Business seats are worth $2,400 a year.

Notion's current structure arrived in several steps:

• On 26 June 2024, Plus moved to $10 per member monthly on yearly billing or $12 on monthly billing for new customers.
• On 13 May 2025, Notion bundled its main AI experience, Enterprise Search, Research Mode, and AI Meeting Notes into Business and Enterprise. Updated prices began immediately for new subscriptions and at the first renewal after 13 August 2025 for affected existing customers.
• On 4 May 2026, Custom Agents left free beta for credit pricing at $10 per 1,000 monthly credits.
• On 15 October 2026, Workers are scheduled to begin using Notion credits. The current live vendor date replaces the earlier date shown in older announcements and coverage.

This history matters at renewal. A legacy invoice or an old screenshot may not describe a plan sold today. Recheck the live price, AI inclusion, member count, credit amount, and Workers usage before approving a new annual term.
