What Is Listen Labs? Pricing and the Salesforce Deal

Listen Labs explained: AI interviews, quote-only pricing, reported costs and what Salesforce's pending acquisition means for your next research contract.

What Is Listen Labs? Pricing and the Salesforce Deal

Listen Labs runs AI interviews with people, recruits participants and analyzes their responses; its current site advertises a 50M+ participant network. Salesforce announced an agreement to buy it on 29 September 2026. Buy for a current research need, and obtain written answers about pricing, data and future availability before committing long term.

Product, pricing and transaction sources verified on 1 October 2026. This assessment uses published documentation and explicit planning assumptions.

What Is Listen Labs?

Listen Labs is an AI customer-research platform that combines study design, participant recruiting, interviews and analysis. You supply the business question and decide whose answers matter. The platform helps collect those answers and turn them into findings you can inspect and reuse.

That makes it useful for a product lead investigating why trial users leave, a marketing lead comparing messages, or a research lead running recurring customer studies. It handles work around the conversation; you still own the choice of audience, the research question and the decision the evidence can support.

Listen Labs AI: Interviews With People

Listen Labs AI interviews ask people questions and adapt the follow-ups to their answers. AI-moderated means software conducts the conversation, following the context and objectives you provide. The respondent is a person; the moderator is software. Listen also offers customer simulation, which is a separate kind of evidence.

For a subscription brand, a response such as “the commitment feels too long” should prompt a question about the commitment: its duration, cancellation rules or uncertainty about the product. That explanation is more useful for a pricing-page decision than a satisfaction score alone. It still needs checking against what the person said.

The documented workflow is straightforward:

  1. Describe the study's background, objectives and hypotheses, or upload a discussion guide.
  2. Choose the audience and recruitment method.
  3. Let the AI conduct interviews with follow-up questions.
  4. Review the responses, analysis and deliverables before making a decision.

This differs from analyzing calls your sales staff already recorded. Those calls reflect existing sales conversations; a research study deliberately recruits people to answer a defined question. The distinction also matters when choosing conversation intelligence software.

Recruiting and Languages: Check Your Audience

Listen can recruit from its network, use a link you send to your own customers, or combine both. Its recruiting docs describe targeting by demographics, geography and professional attributes, with screening questions for relevant behavior. Niche professional audiences can cost more and take longer to recruit.

The current homepage advertises 50M+ participants. The getting-started and recruiting docs still print 30M+. Use the current homepage figure as Listen's advertised network size, but request feasibility for your specific audience. Neither number tells a B2B product lead how many eligible buyers of their particular software are available.

The same care applies to languages. Listen advertises 120+ languages across the platform, while its spoken-interviewer guide says 40+ languages with voice and names 42 supported languages. Platform coverage and spoken question delivery have different scopes.

For an international study, preview the exact language and voice your participants will hear. In the documented interface, open the study Editor, choose the wrench settings icon, then Language & Voice. Select the language, preview the voice and save. A headline language count is insufficient to approve a spoken study in a particular market.

Analysis and the Research Library

Research Agent helps analyze a study; Research Library helps reuse knowledge across studies. That distinction matters when you are buying a recurring research program rather than a single report.

The analysis docs describe themes, segment comparisons, video highlights and PowerPoint deliverables. Research Agent answers questions in plain language with citations to participants and timestamps. A useful answer should lead you back to the evidence, so you can check whether a confident summary overlooks a minority view or mixes audiences.

Research Library works across the workspace, subject to access permissions. It cites the studies, questions and participant quotes behind its answers. A marketing lead can ask whether a concern appeared in previous studies before paying to investigate it again.

The practical value is research reuse. Its limitation is the evidence already collected: querying past studies cannot supply an audience or question those studies never covered. Keep study dates and participant definitions attached to the findings you reuse.

Listen Labs Pricing

Listen Labs pricing is quote only. Its current product site directs buyers to a demo rather than a public dollar rate card. Listen's own pricing explainer describes a subscription plus participant credits, with consumption varying by audience difficulty. Its public Master Service Agreement puts fees and credit terms in the applicable Order Form or Statement of Work.

Ask for the total cost of your research program: platform access, completed interviews, recruitment, incentives, research support and any extras. A price per credit means little until you know how many credits your audience and interview format consume.

What Public Sources Report

Contrary Research reports roughly $20,000 annually plus $300-$400 per completed interview. Its numeric citations lead to a competing vendor, User Intuition, whose current page describes an April 2026 buyer's historical offer for one buying situation.

That provenance changes how to use the number. It is a reported historical example, not a verified current minimum, a Listen rate card or an independently confirmed typical price. Request a fresh quote for your audience and volume.

A Conditional Budget Model

If your quote used that reported historical structure, annual vendor spend would be $20,000 + completed interviews × $300-$400, before additional charges. The following arithmetic is ours; the inputs remain unconfirmed reports.

Annual completed interviewsAssumed annual baseModeled annual spendEffective cost per complete
100$20,000$50,000-$60,000$500-$600
600, or 50 per month$20,000$200,000-$260,000Approximately $333-$433

In this model, interview charges equal the annual base at roughly 50-67 interviews. For a research lead planning frequent studies, audience costs can therefore matter more than the platform fee. Bringing your own customers may change the recruitment component, but obtain the applicable credit rate before assuming a saving.

Neither acquisition announcement publishes a new customer rate card. There is no verified post-close discount or surcharge to enter into a before-and-after budget.

What the Salesforce Agreement Changes

The confirmed change is an agreement to acquire Listen Labs. On 29 September 2026, Salesforce announced the signed deal and said closing was expected in fiscal Q4 2027, subject to customary conditions and required regulatory clearance. Salesforce announcement.

The fiscal date is easy to misread. Salesforce's fiscal 2027 ends on 31 January 2027, as its 26 August earnings release states. Its fiscal Q4 therefore covers November 2026 through January 2027. That is the expected window, not a guaranteed closing date or a promise of product availability.

Listen Labs Valuation and the Reported Deal Price

About $2 billion is a reported acquisition price. Salesforce did not disclose financial terms. MarTech's 30 September report makes that distinction explicit.

The figure says nothing about what a research customer will pay. A purchase price for a company does not establish interview rates, future seat pricing or inclusion in an existing Salesforce subscription.

What Listen and Salesforce Have Said

Listen's 29 September 2026 announcement makes a product and leadership continuity statement. Founder Alfred Wahlforss writes, “I stay CEO, Florian stays CTO,” says “the same team will keep building the product you rely on,” and names its home as “now inside Salesforce AI Labs.” Listen's announcement.

For a current customer, that is a stated commitment to continue building the product. It does not specify a protected renewal price or how long a standalone purchase will remain available.

Salesforce's 29 September 2026 statement describes the acquisition as “complementing Marketing Cloud, Service Cloud, and our broader AI portfolio.” Marketing Cloud and Service Cloud are its marketing and customer-service products. The announcement sets a direction; it does not announce a shipping integration or customer entitlement. Salesforce announcement.

The two announcements do not specify standalone availability duration, future packaging, automatic customer migrations, changes to existing customer prices, movement of interview data or integration dates. Obtain written answers for anything your purchase depends on.

Contracts and Data: Check the Terms You Signed

Listen's public Master Service Agreement, updated 6 February 2026 and checked 1 October 2026, is a reference. Your executed agreement and amendments control.

  • Assignment and renewal: the public clause says “consent is not required” for assignment connected with a change of control or merger, among other transactions. Successor provisions apply. Default nonrenewal notice is 30 days unless your Order Form differs.
  • Customer Data: customers retain ownership; using it for “training any Artificial Intelligence models” is prohibited. Usage Data excludes Customer Data. Ask how interviews and simulations are classified under your agreement and data processing addendum, the document setting processing responsibilities.
  • Future features: purchasing is “not contingent on the delivery of any future functionality or features.” Base a commitment on available capabilities and written terms.

The MSA provides for return or destruction of confidential information on request or termination, subject to applicable law. Separately, Listen's recruiting docs describe response exports to CSV, Excel or Google Sheets. A return provision and a usable export of your entire research history are different things. Verify the available formats and timetable.

What It Means for Your Buying Decision

Existing customers should keep useful research moving and review the next commitment. If a study is helping a product lead make a current launch decision, the announcement supplies no reason to discard its evidence. Check your renewal date, applicable notice period, access rights and export process before extending the relationship.

New buyers should pilot the current product against a defined decision. A marketing lead comparing messages needs an eligible audience, useful follow-ups and traceable findings. Those are assessable now. A Salesforce announcement cannot compensate for a weak sample, an unsuitable interview language or an unclear quote.

Salesforce operators should wait when the business case depends on a future bundle. If the purchase only pays back when research appears directly inside your Marketing Cloud or Service Cloud workflow, the announcements do not yet establish that availability. Obtain a proposal that names the required capability and its terms before budgeting it as delivered.

Buyers with a policy against a future Salesforce-owned supplier should compare alternatives now. That is a procurement constraint, independent of whether Listen's current research workflow meets the need. Use the same audience and evaluation criteria for both proposals.

What's Overhyped

More interviews and more simulated answers are different forms of scale. Salesforce describes digital twins as generating simulated responses before further customer or user testing. More outputs from a simulation do not add independent people to your research sample. Use them to narrow hypotheses, then check the important ones with the relevant audience.

The headline capability counts need the same discipline. An advertised 50M+ recruiting network does not guarantee that your target segment is available, affordable or representative. Platform-wide 120+ language coverage does not establish spoken-interviewer support for every one of those languages.

For a research lead, the useful question is whether the evidence supports the decision. Can you trace the finding to the right people, inspect the follow-up, identify contradictory responses and distinguish observed answers from estimates? Acquisition value and output volume do not answer that question.

Listen Labs Competitors to Compare

Compare these three alternatives for the research workflow you need. The criteria here are AI-moderated interviews, audience recruitment options, analysis and published commercial terms. This is a documentation and pricing comparison; no hands-on accuracy ranking is claimed. Prices below were checked on 1 October 2026.

Outset

Outset offers AI-moderated interviewing with text, voice, video and voice-to-voice response formats, plus recruitment and analysis options. It is worth comparing when a research lead needs a particular interview format or setup support. Its official pricing page requests custom pricing and says access varies by plan and add-ons. Get the exact format, recruitment service and deliverables included in your proposal; the feature list alone is insufficient to establish the package.

Strella

Strella supports AI-moderated or researcher-moderated interviews, with your own customers or its participant panel. That makes it a relevant comparison for a lead who wants to automate some conversations while retaining human moderation for others. Its current site directs buyers to a demo and publishes no dollar rate. Request the price for your mix of moderation, audience sourcing and synthesis; do not assume that moving outside Salesforce produces a cheaper program.

Maze

Maze puts AI-moderated interviews alongside product research such as prototype testing. It is a useful candidate for a product lead who wants both in the same research platform. AI-moderated interviews are an Enterprise feature with custom pricing, as its current study documentation confirms. Request the Enterprise proposal with AI interviews and recruitment charges named. Compare that offering against Listen's quote using the same study scope.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is listen labs legit?

Listen Labs is a documented commercial research platform. Its site names customer examples, and Salesforce has announced an acquisition agreement. Those facts establish its business presence; research quality still needs checking through the study design, participant responses and cited findings.

What kind of clients does Listen Labs have?

Listen names Microsoft, Anthropic and Sweetgreen on its current site. These are vendor-published customer examples, not a promise that your study will reproduce a customer's outcome. Customer examples.

How much do listen labs cost?

Current pricing is quote only. The reported roughly $20,000 annual base plus $300-$400 per session traces to a historical April 2026 buyer offer published by a competitor. Obtain a current quote rather than treating that example as a rate card.

How do listen labs work?

You define a study and its audience, recruit through Listen or your own link, collect AI-moderated interviews and review analysis with citations to the underlying responses.

Is Listen Labs a remote company?

Its current careers page lists roles in San Francisco, New York and London, plus a remote contractor role. That does not establish a company-wide remote-only policy. Current careers page.

Who are Listen Labs' main competitors?

Outset, Strella and Maze are relevant alternatives for AI-moderated customer interviews. Compare their quoted interview offering and recruitment terms, rather than an unrelated entry-level plan.

Who owns Listen Labs?

Salesforce is the pending acquirer named in the 29 September 2026 agreement. The transaction statements checked for this article describe an expected future close; they do not announce a completed acquisition.

Is Listen Labs a profitable company?

Neither transaction announcement provides an audited profitability figure. A reported acquisition price cannot establish whether the company is profitable.

How many employees does Listen Labs have?

The two transaction announcements do not provide a dated headcount. For a purchasing decision, request a named support owner and service commitment rather than inferring capacity from job listings.

What does Listen Labs do?

It combines study design, participant recruiting, AI-moderated interviews and analysis. Research Agent helps analyze individual studies; Research Library makes findings searchable across workspace studies.

What to Do on Monday

Listen Labs Reviews: Judge the Evidence

Run a bounded pilot if today's product fits the need and the quote is acceptable. Wait if the purchase depends on an unannounced Salesforce capability or unresolved data terms. For a marketing lead deciding how to explain a new offer, the next move is a small, inspectable study with a written commercial scope.

Paper decision fork directing a buyer to pilot when the product works today and wait when the purchase needs a future bundle
Pilot for a current need. Wait when the buying case depends on a future bundle.
  1. Define one decision and the audience

Write the decision the study must inform, such as which concern your offer page should address. Specify who qualifies and the interview language. Ask for a pilot quote covering 10 completed interviews as an initial evidence-review exercise; that number is an illustrative scope, not a statistical proof threshold. Preview the spoken interviewer before launch.

  2. Inspect the evidence and the export

Read the underlying responses. Check whether follow-ups probe your question, whether the people qualify and whether contrary answers survive the summary. Follow Research Agent and Research Library citations. Exercise response exports and confirm how recordings, guides, reports and cross-study findings can be retained under your agreement.

  3. Get the next commitment in writing

Request platform and interview charges, credit consumption, incentives, unused-credit treatment, renewal terms and applicable research support. Ask who will contract with you after close, which data terms apply to interviews and simulations, and whether standalone access is assured for your proposed term. If your case depends on a Salesforce integration, require the available capability and entitlement to be named. Compare a second supplier using the same brief.

Keep the decision tied to research you can use this quarter. The acquisition matters at procurement and renewal; the evidence must earn the product decision on its own.
