Metricool Review

Metricool review for small businesses and agencies: scheduling, reporting, AI, network coverage, approval workflows and practical limits.

Metricool Review

Metricool is a strong choice for a small business or agency that needs social scheduling and useful client reports in the same place. Its free plan allows 20 published posts a month, but Starter is the practical solo-operator plan and Advanced is the starting point when clients or teammates must approve content.

Metricool review criteria: publishing coverage, reporting usefulness, client handoffs and the limits behind each plan. Prices and capabilities verified against Metricool's live pages on 17 October 2026. This evaluation uses vendor documentation and workflow analysis; it does not claim a hands-on product trial.

What Is Metricool Used For?

Metricool brings a publishing calendar, social analytics, downloadable reports, an inbox and advertising data into one workspace. Its organizing unit is a brand, a container for a business or client with one profile per social network or advertising platform. For a local business, that could put its Instagram account, Facebook Page and Google Business Profile together; for an agency, each client gets a separate container. The attraction is the connection between planning content and explaining its results. It does not remove the work of producing good content, answering customers or deciding which activity produced a sale. Metricool's account model matters as much as its feature list when you manage several locations or accounts on the same network.

Metricool Alternatives: Who Should Use It and Who Should Skip It?

Metricool fits an owner who publishes across several networks and needs a regular performance review, or an agency whose deliverable includes a calendar and a client report. It is less compelling when your main problem is maintaining a reusable content queue or assigning customer conversations to individual staff.

ToolStrongest fitReason to choose itBoundary to check
MetricoolScheduling plus recurring reportsCalendar, organic and ads data, and report exports in one productClient approvals and shared team access require Advanced
SocialBeeA business reusing educational and promotional contentCategories, re-queuing and expiry rules organize the recurring calendarRecycled content still needs an owner to keep it current
Vista SocialA team handling customer messagesAssign conversations as tasks, add internal notes and label messagesInbox updates are not instant on every network

For a solo consultant managing client calendars personally, Metricool Starter can be enough even when several brands are involved. The moment a client must log in, a colleague must work inside the account, or approval must happen within the publishing flow, the relevant comparison becomes Advanced. Brand capacity and collaboration access are separate purchasing decisions.

For an owner who only wants to post occasional announcements, start with Free if the network mix and allowance fit. Paying for reports you never read is not an efficiency gain. Conversely, if a client expects a report every month, treat report exports as part of the service requirement from the beginning.

Choose SocialBee for a reusable content calendar

SocialBee is a scheduler built around content categories and repeated publishing, and it is the better shortlist choice for a business whose calendar mostly reuses useful material. A bookkeeping practice could maintain categories for tax reminders, service explanations and customer questions, then pause an entire category or expire a time-sensitive post. Its publishing tools explicitly support re-queuing and expiry by date or number of shares.

Metricool has autolists, so this is a preference for the way SocialBee organizes that work, not a claim that Metricool cannot repeat content. Choose SocialBee when maintaining the category schedule is the daily task. Keep an editor responsible for old offers and changed advice; automation will not make an obsolete post suitable again.

Choose Vista Social for assigned customer conversations

Vista Social is a social management platform worth shortlisting when messages must become accountable work. Its inbox can turn a conversation into an assigned task, attach internal notes and label messages. For a retailer separating delivery complaints from product questions, those controls are a concrete reason to evaluate it before choosing a reporting-focused workflow. Vista Social documents these inbox functions.

The limitation matters: Vista Social does not receive every network's messages instantly. Verify the actual channels your support staff handle. Metricool already has filters, saved replies and collaboration in its own inbox, so switching needs to remove a specific handoff problem.

For a broader shortlist, use our best social media scheduler for small business comparison and Later alternatives. The choice here is whether Metricool's scheduling-to-reporting workflow matches the service you deliver.

Scheduling and AI: Build the Week Around Actual Publishing Requirements

Metricool's planner is useful when one campaign must become several network-specific posts without losing track of what is ready, scheduled or waiting for review. The planner includes a visual calendar, post previews, CSV imports, autolists, media editing and best-time suggestions based on follower activity. Those suggestions give you a starting point for testing your schedule; they do not establish that reach or engagement will increase.

Supported networks: separate publishing from connections

Metricool's publishing matrix covers Facebook, Instagram, Threads, X, Bluesky, LinkedIn, Pinterest, TikTok, YouTube and Google Business Profile. Its connection guide also lists Twitch, a website or blog, and Meta Ads, Google Ads and TikTok Ads. Twitch being connected does not make it a publishing destination in the planner's current matrix.

Account type matters. Facebook connects through a Page; Instagram requires a professional Business or Creator account; LinkedIn can be a profile or a Page. LinkedIn requires a paid plan, and X requires a paid plan plus its add-on. A network logo is not a promise that every account type, post format and inbox interaction is supported.

For a restaurant, the relevant check is whether its exact Reel, Story, offer and location post can complete the intended workflow. A business that relies on Instagram Story links or stickers still has a manual step: Metricool's planning guide says these elements require notification publishing, where you receive the prepared content and finish in Instagram. A scheduled notification is useful coordination, but someone must be available to act on it.

How to Use Metricool for a Weekly Publishing Run

Metricool works best when you decide what each destination needs before loading the calendar. Consider a café announcing a weekend menu on Instagram, Facebook and Google Business Profile. The following is a suggested workflow based on the documented controls, not a reported product test.

  1. Connect the business, then check the destinations

Create the brand and connect the correct accounts. Confirm that the location and professional-account requirements match the business. Preview the format you intend to publish before committing the whole campaign calendar.

  2. Create the campaign and adapt each post

Draft the menu announcement, add the asset and tailor the wording for each selected network. Use the preview to check cropping and presentation. If the post links to a booking page, add UTM parameters, the campaign labels attached to a URL, so later reporting can identify that traffic.

  3. Separate automatic posts from manual completions

Schedule supported posts in the calendar. Give any Story needing native-only elements an owner for the notification step. If the client must sign off, use the approval workflow available on Advanced instead of treating a scheduled draft as approval.

  4. Review the result against the business task

After publication, examine the relevant post metrics and available link data. Record what to change next time: the offer, creative, destination or timing. Keep actual bookings in the booking system as the business outcome; a post's interactions alone cannot establish it.

CSV import and autolists become valuable when the café already has an approved library. Importing more material before checking dates and offers only moves errors into the calendar faster.

AI helps with drafts, with several different limits

Metricool's AI text generator works inside the calendar and autolists. You can provide the subject, choose tone and language, select a network and revise the output. For the café, that means turning a confirmed menu brief into drafts for different channels, then checking the opening hours, offer conditions and wording before publication.

The allowance is 5 credits a month on Free, 20 per brand on Starter and 35 per brand on Advanced. Credits depend on the text processed, so they are not a guaranteed number of finished posts. Unused credits do not roll over, and the help page says additional credits cannot currently be purchased. The pricing matrix also lists AI alt-text generation: it consumes credits on Free and Starter, while Advanced and Custom include it without credit consumption.

Metricool MCP, a connection that lets an external AI assistant use Metricool tools, is a separate feature. It can query analytics and work with the planner on any plan within that plan's limits. It cannot currently handle inbox messages, autolists or ads campaign management through that connection. Access to the conventional API, the interface used for custom software integrations, remains an Advanced or Custom entitlement. The MCP requirements make those distinctions explicit.

Buy Metricool for the workflow you can use today. Neither AI drafting nor an AI connection replaces editorial review or expands the underlying plan allowance.

Analytics and Reports: The Strongest Reason to Buy Metricool

Metricool earns its place when publishing is followed by a decision or a client conversation. Its analytics workspace gathers account and content performance across connected channels. For an agency owner, the value is a consistent place to investigate results before preparing the explanation, rather than collecting a separate screenshot from every native dashboard.

Metricool Analytics

Keep the question concrete. A local-service business promoting estimates needs to know whether people reached its inquiry page and became qualified leads. A retailer announcing a product launch may first need to compare which content attracted attention and clicks. Metricool helps inspect the social side; the inquiry system or sales records still establish what happened commercially.

Do not total unlike metrics into a confident revenue story. A video view, a profile visit and a link click describe different actions. Compare the same metric over a consistent period, then state what evidence is still missing. That discipline makes a client report more useful than adding every chart available.

Standard reports: prepare a repeatable client deliverable

Metricool's standard reports are available from Starter, with PDF and PowerPoint downloads and automated monthly delivery. In Reporting, choose the period, language, platforms and table settings, optionally add a logo, then generate the file. Advanced and Custom add reusable custom templates. These are distinct entitlements in the reporting documentation.

Metricool Reports

For an agency reporting on a client's monthly promotion, first decide which channels and measures belong in the deliverable. Produce the report, then write a short interpretation: what changed, which campaign was running and what you recommend next. Use the documented test-send option before enabling monthly delivery to the client. A report delivered automatically is still your recommendation to explain.

The logo option also prevents an unnecessary upgrade: adding a client's logo to a standard report is different from designing a reusable custom template. Neither is equivalent to replacing Metricool's product branding with your agency's identity. That last requirement belongs to the Custom discussion.

Ads reporting: a shared view, with attribution still to resolve

Metricool brings Google Ads, Meta Ads and TikTok Ads data into the same reporting environment, including campaign impressions, clicks, conversions and cost metrics. Its ads page explicitly describes campaign creation for Google and Meta; TikTok reporting should not be read as a promise that every campaign-management action is available there.

Metricool Ads

For a retailer running a launch across paid and organic social, this is a useful review surface. Check which campaign spent the money, what the platform reports as a conversion and whether the sales system confirms the outcome. Adding platforms' reported conversions together can count overlapping claims; the dashboard alone does not prove incremental sales.

Freshness also affects the workflow. Metricool's Free-plan guide says daily ads synchronization is a paid feature, with TikTok Ads treated as an exception. Free is therefore not a basis for promising a client the same reporting cadence as a paid account.

Metricool Studio: AI reports have a narrower data boundary

Metricool Studio creates AI-assisted views from data Metricool already collects. It can help explore content performance and available competitor metrics, but it cannot pull in your customer relationship management system, Google Analytics or other external sources. It also cannot process image or video files as analytical inputs. For combined external reporting, Metricool points to its Data Studio connector. Studio's documented limits are decisive here.

That means a prompt asking which social posts produced profitable customers cannot manufacture the missing sales records. Use Studio to explain the social metrics it has, and use a combined reporting system for the wider business question. Paid plans include limited Studio access; the Advanced Analytics add-on expands access subject to fair use. The word “Advanced” in a subscription name does not mean every advanced reporting feature is unlimited.

Competitor Tracking: Useful Benchmarks With Clear Blind Spots

Metricool's competitor analysis helps a business compare public content patterns without asking competitors for account access. That makes it useful for a local gym deciding what to cover next: look at relevant local businesses, inspect the posts drawing public interactions and identify questions your own content has not answered. The evidence is a direction for a new test, not proof of a competitor's customer acquisition results.

Metricool Competitor Analysis

The current competitor connection guide lists Facebook, Instagram, Threads, X, Bluesky, YouTube and Twitch. TikTok and LinkedIn competitor tracking are outside that list, even though you can connect your own accounts on those networks. That distinction alone can change the purchase for a business whose research depends on either platform.

On paid plans, the guide permits up to 100 competitors per supported network, except YouTube, which allows 10. X requires its add-on. Instagram competitor connections require your Instagram account to be connected through Facebook. The broad claim “100 competitors” therefore needs those qualifications.

A useful recurring workflow is to open Analytics → Competitors, add a small set of comparable accounts and review the public posts behind the strongest results. Separate large national brands from nearby businesses serving the same customers. Otherwise, a follower-size difference can dominate a comparison that was supposed to improve your local content.

Metricool distinguishes public competitor data from the richer metrics available when you connect an account with permission. Do not infer a rival's clicks, leads or sales from a public engagement comparison. A popular gym video can generate discussion without filling classes; your own bookings are the evidence that matters to your business.

There is another boundary specifically inside Studio: its competitor follower data keeps the latest cumulative snapshot, so Studio cannot show competitor follower evolution over time. This is a Studio limitation, not a claim that every competitor chart elsewhere in Metricool lacks history.

Agency Workflows: Advanced Is the Approval Gate

Metricool becomes a shared agency workspace on Advanced, where the plan adds team members, roles, client access and post approvals. This is the tier boundary to price when a designer prepares content, an account manager checks it and the client gives final approval. Starter's capacity for several brands does not include those collaboration features.

Metricool Content Approvals

The approval workflow accepts existing collaborators or external reviewers by email. External reviewers do not need a Metricool account. From Planning, prepare the post, choose Send for review, select reviewers and set the approval rule. The client can review the assigned posts through the portal rather than sending disconnected comments about screenshots.

Choose the rule deliberately. Metricool supports one approval being sufficient, everyone approving, or automatic approval if nobody rejects. “Nobody rejected it” is not the same as explicit client sign-off. For a client contract that requires approval, use a rule requiring an affirmative decision. A rejection blocks publication regardless of the other approvals.

Roles help make that process enforceable. A user with the Content Creator role must send posts through approval before publication. An owner who gives everyone broader editing permissions should not assume the workflow enforces the same boundary. Editing a post after sending it for review also resets the review and requires resubmission.

Plan around a client who replies late. Metricool documents a 3-hour grace period for a post still awaiting approval at its scheduled time; after that, it remains unapproved and does not publish. That rule is useful protection, but it does not rescue a time-sensitive promotion whose reviewer is unavailable. Give each client a review deadline before the intended publication time.

For agency reporting beyond the standard exports, Advanced also includes the Data Studio connector and API integrations such as Make and Zapier. Those help connect the service to a broader reporting or automation workflow. White-label product integration, however, remains a Custom feature on the plan comparison.

Metricool Pricing: Buy the Workflow You Need

Metricool Starter is the sensible paid starting point for one operator: up to 5 brands costs $20 per month on annual billing or $25 month to month. It adds LinkedIn, report exports and automated delivery, longer analytics history, the Post library, Canva and Google Drive integrations, SmartLinks and publishing subject to fair use. Free's wall is the publishing allowance, short history and missing report exports. Starter's wall is team access and approvals. These are the USD figures on Metricool's pricing page, verified on 17 October 2026.

Advanced starts at $53 per month on annual billing or $67 month to month for up to 15 brands. It adds unlimited team members, role and client management, approvals, custom report templates, the Data Studio connector and API access. Starter also has a larger brand option, and Advanced scales to larger brand bundles. Buy the feature boundary first, then the capacity you need; a small agency can need Advanced well before it fills that first bundle.

For an illustrative agency with 5 paying client brands, the annual Advanced base is $636 a year, equivalent to $10.60 per client per month. That is our calculation from $53 × 12 and $53 ÷ 5, before add-ons and applicable tax. It is subscription cost per client served, not evidence of time saved or extra revenue. Whether it pays back depends on the reporting and review work included in your retainer.

Custom is quote-based, adding a custom brand allowance, white-label integration, a dedicated account manager and customizable AI credits. It is relevant when clients need your branded platform, rather than simply a report carrying their logo.

Include the extras in the decision: X costs $10 per connected account per month on paid plans. The Advanced Analytics add-on starts at $12 per month on Starter and $36 on Advanced or Custom. All these prices come from the same live pricing page, which excludes applicable VAT. Annual monthly equivalents require the annual commitment; they are not the cancel-anytime monthly bill.

Metricool's Limitations That Can Change the Decision

Metricool's restrictions matter most when a buyer assumes that a brand, an unlimited plan or a shareable report means more than the documentation promises.

Metricool Free Plan: Count Publications, Not Campaign Ideas

Metricool Free includes one brand, 20 published posts per calendar month, 30 days of analytics, five fixed competitors and five AI credits. It excludes LinkedIn, X and downloadable PDF or PowerPoint reports. The Free-plan documentation also says competitor selections cannot be changed once added, so choose the comparison accounts carefully.

The practical limit is cross-posting. A campaign published to 3 networks consumes 3 posts. Six such campaigns consume 18; a seventh would require 21 and exceed the allowance. Those are our calculations from Metricool's counting rule. Drafts do not count until published, and putting more content on the calendar does not increase the month's publishing allowance.

Free works for a small recurring presence and an evaluation of basic analytics. It stops being a sensible operating plan when the normal calendar exceeds that allowance or reporting is a client deliverable.

Metricool's fair-use policy sets a base threshold of 600 posts per brand per month. Exceeding it triggers a manual compliance review, during which the administrator cannot publish. If the activity complies, Metricool can extend the threshold; if it does not, postings can be suspended for the month.

This is not a permanent 600-post ceiling, but the possible pause is operationally significant. A high-volume publisher should resolve expected volume with Metricool before moving a large recurring calendar. The marketing word “unlimited” does not promise uninterrupted publishing at any volume.

Metricool's report guide says report URLs can be opened without signing in and do not expire. It also says deleting a report from the download manager does not disable links already copied.

For an agency, removing an old client report from the interface is therefore not access revocation. If the contract requires controlled access that can later be withdrawn, use a delivery system that meets that requirement. This is a specific limitation of the sharing workflow, separate from whether the PDF itself looks professional.

Brand Counts and Data History Have Exceptions

Metricool permits one account per platform inside a brand, and each Google Business Profile location requires a separate brand. A business with several locations cannot assume that its single company name means a single brand slot. Map the accounts before choosing the bundle. The pricing FAQ explicitly describes the location rule.

The same page qualifies unlimited analytics history: X metric storage remains limited to 30 days. Starter also has reduced X analytics, while Advanced and Custom offer the fuller set with the add-on. If long-term X analysis is a core deliverable, account for the storage boundary before promising it.

Finally, the reporting tools do not erase the earlier network limits: competitor coverage excludes some supported publishing networks, and certain Instagram elements require native completion. The right assessment is whether the complete job works for your accounts, not how many logos appear on the homepage.

Metricool Review: The Decision Rule

Metricool is worth shortlisting when the same person or agency owns both the publishing calendar and the explanation of its results. Choose Starter when one operator does the work and needs proper report exports. Choose Advanced when teammates or clients need access, content needs formal approval, or custom reporting integrations are part of the service.

Choose SocialBee when the central problem is maintaining reusable content categories. Evaluate Vista Social when incoming customer conversations must become assigned tasks. Stay on Free only when the actual publication count, networks and reporting needs fit its limits.

The next-week move is concrete: map one business's accounts, prepare a representative campaign, identify every manual completion, and specify the report the owner or client expects. If approvals matter, include the actual reviewer in that evaluation. Move the rest of the calendar only after that whole handoff works. A scheduler is useful when it supports the work around publication as well as the publication itself.

Metricool FAQ

Is Metricool free to use?

Yes. Metricool has a permanent Free plan with one brand, 20 published posts per month and 30 days of analytics history. It excludes LinkedIn, X and PDF/PPT report downloads. Cross-posting counts separately for each destination, so the allowance is not 20 campaign ideas distributed everywhere.

Which networks does Metricool support?

Its publishing matrix lists Facebook, Instagram, Threads, X, Bluesky, LinkedIn, Pinterest, TikTok, YouTube and Google Business Profile. Twitch, websites and Meta, Google and TikTok advertising accounts also appear in the connection guide for analysis. Account types, formats, inbox coverage and plan access differ; Instagram requires a professional account, LinkedIn requires paid access and X requires the add-on.

Is Metricool good for agencies?

Yes, particularly when the agency supplies both content calendars and reports. Advanced is the practical starting point for shared team access, client approvals, custom report templates and reporting integrations. Custom is relevant for white-label product integration. Check report-link access and network-specific limits against the client service you promise.

Is Metricool worth it?

It is strongest when you use both scheduling and reporting regularly. The case is weaker if you only need an occasional post, never use the analytics, or require a competitor-analysis network it does not support. Buy according to the workflow and required permissions, not unused brand capacity.

What does "pending" on Metricool mean?

For a post marked Pending review, the approval requirement has not yet been completed. Inspect its reviewer status and selected approval rule. Metricool documents a 3-hour grace period after the scheduled time for an unapproved post; after that it remains unpublished. Other pending statuses, such as inbox work, should be read in their own context.

How much does Metricool cost?

There is a Free plan and paid Starter, Advanced and Custom options. The cost section above compares the entry Starter and Advanced configurations on annual and monthly billing. Add X connections and advanced analytics requirements before comparing the final bill; Custom requires a quote.

Can you provide a tutorial for using Metricool?

Start by connecting the right accounts inside a brand. Create a post in Planning, adapt it for each destination, check the preview and schedule it or send it for review. Complete any native-only elements through the notification workflow. Then inspect Analytics and, on a paid plan, prepare the client deliverable in Reporting. The weekly publishing walkthrough above explains the decisions at each step.
