SE Ranking Review (Verified October 2026)
SE Ranking's current prices, SEO limits and AI tracking, compared with Semrush and Ahrefs. Who should buy Core, Growth or skip it.

SE Ranking is a good buy for SEO-led founders and small agencies: Core costs $129 a month and lists 2,000 daily tracked keywords plus AI visibility tracking. This SE Ranking review recommends Core for that combined workflow, but the $89 AI Search add-on needs a quota check: the pricing page calls its allowance “200 prompts,” while the help page calls it “200 checks per month.”
SE Ranking review: the buying case
SE Ranking is a subscription workspace for researching search demand, tracking where your pages appear, finding technical website problems, examining backlinks, links from other websites, and reporting progress. You organize a website into a project and add the keywords or AI prompts you want to monitor. Its AI Results Tracker records brand mentions, links and cited sources in generated answers, giving a marketer another visibility signal alongside conventional search rankings. The useful buying case is one repeatable research, monitoring and repair workflow. SE Ranking's product overview.

For a founder choosing one search platform, these are the entry packages worth comparing. All prices below are USD on monthly billing, verified against the vendors' live public pages on 5 October 2026.
SE Ranking's larger advertised AI prompt count is not enough to establish the number of daily checks across all engines. Its documentation describes a separate monthly allowance without clearly reconciling it with the pricing labels. That prevents a defensible cost-per-equivalent-AI-check comparison. The SEO keyword capacity and subscription totals can still be compared directly, with their different update frequencies made explicit.
SE Ranking reviews: what the evidence supports
This evaluation uses public product pages, documentation, pricing and the calculations shown below. It does not claim a signed-in test, measured ranking or backlink accuracy, support response time, or an observed traffic increase. The decision criteria are recurring subscription cost, usable account capacity, reporting requirements and whether the documented AI workflow answers a business question you will act on.
SE Ranking SEO tool review: who should buy it
SE Ranking fits a founder or marketer who needs to decide what to publish, check whether it gains visibility and identify website problems without buying a separate product for each task. A B2B software founder managing one site can start with Core's research, daily rankings and audit allowance; the included AI tracking creates a way to investigate whether the brand also appears in answers to buying questions.
A small agency gets a stronger reason to consider Growth when several people deliver client work. Growth includes 30 projects and 3 manager seats, compared with Core's 10 and 1. Guest links and page-change monitoring are listed among Growth's additions. Those distinctions matter when the account owner should not have to export every report or investigate every changed client page personally. Current plan differences.
SE Ranking's dashboard gives that buyer a place to connect visibility with website activity: its public page describes rankings, audit and backlink views alongside data from Google Analytics 4 and Matomo, website analytics services, and Google Search Console, Google's reports on your site's search performance. A founder should use that connection to ask whether commercial pages receive visits and produce leads, rather than paying for another score with no assigned next action. Dashboard features.

When SE Ranking is a Semrush alternative
SE Ranking is a sensible Semrush alternative when the buying requirement is daily keyword monitoring, technical audits and a manageable AI visibility work list. Core's $129 price is $70 below Semrush Starter's $199 monthly price. That saving is useful for an agency owner who already has a content process and wants monitoring capacity. It does not prove the products return interchangeable datasets or recommendations.
Choose Semrush instead if its combined SEO and AI package fits your required monitoring scope and avoids an uncertain SE Ranking add-on purchase. Once Core carries the entry AI Search add-on, its monthly total becomes $218, above Starter's $199. Semrush Pro+ also explicitly lists historical SEO data, content optimization, analysis of pages competing for the same keyword and multi-location/device tracking. The Semrush review examines that broader workflow; the price comparison below uses today's vendor page.
Choose Ahrefs instead when your weekly work centers on link and content research and you need Standard's named tools, including Content Explorer, Batch Analysis, broken-link and broken-backlink reports. Standard costs $249 monthly. Lite at $129 has a smaller monitoring allowance and 1,000 user credits per month, so buying Ahrefs solely because its entry price matches Core misses the different constraints. Ahrefs' current plans.
Skip a paid suite for now if nobody owns the work after the report arrives. A local-services founder who has yet to review their own Google queries and indexing issues should start with the free Google Search Console workflow in the FAQ, assign the repairs and only then pay for competitor research or recurring monitoring.
Daily rank tracking that supports a client decision
SE Ranking's Rank Tracker is useful when a visibility change needs a specific response: investigate the landing page, repair it or explain why a client should keep funding it. Its public page describes daily tracking on Google, Bing, Yahoo and YouTube, desktop and mobile views, location settings and the top 100 results for a tracked keyword. It also documents target URLs, groups and tags. Rank Tracker capabilities.

Consider an agency managing a plumbing company's service pages. “Emergency plumber” and a question about fixing a leaking tap represent different customer jobs. Put the commercial service terms in their own group, track the relevant city and device, and assign the intended service page as the target URL. A gain for a blog post should not be reported as the same result as a gain for the page that takes calls.
Keyword cannibalization means several pages on your site compete for the same query. The target-URL feature helps identify when the wrong page appears. That gives an operator a useful question: is the problem weaker visibility overall, or a different page taking the place of the page that converts?
Group keywords by the customer action
Use groups and tags to separate service-page terms from educational topics. Assign the target URL you want to rank for each commercial keyword.
Keep location and device consistent
Review the relevant search engine, location and desktop or mobile view. Use the same view when comparing dates so the report describes the same market.
Investigate the page behind the movement
Filter by target URL or tag, inspect which terms changed and compare the landing page with its intended job. Read visibility alongside enquiries or conversions in your connected analytics before calling the change a business win.
The payoff is a narrower weekly work list. The report should tell the agency which service page needs attention and the founder which lead source deserves investigation. It cannot establish how many customers a ranking improvement created without your own conversion data.
Keyword and competitor research for a content budget
SE Ranking's keyword and competitor tools earn their place when they stop a marketer commissioning content without a plausible customer or landing page. The Keyword Tool publishes search volume, keyword difficulty, cost per click, intent and keyword suggestions, including local data. Intent describes what the searcher is trying to do; difficulty is the vendor's estimate of ranking competition. Both are inputs to a decision, rather than evidence that a page will produce revenue. Keyword Tool features.

For a B2B software growth lead, start with a problem your product solves, such as employee onboarding. Separate educational questions from searches for software, templates and competing products. Before approving a brief, name the reader, the page they should reach and the action the page should support. A smaller commercial query can be worth the writing budget when the product has a credible answer and the page belongs in the sales journey.
SE Ranking's Competitive Research then helps investigate the pages and queries another company owns. The documented workflow is to enter a domain or URL, choose the region and click Analyze. The reports cover organic and paid keywords and identify pages and subdomains associated with estimated traffic. Documented research workflow.

Use that sequence to inspect a rival's relevant landing pages, shortlist topics that match your offer and check the live results before writing. Copying the competitor's topic list without considering your own product creates a publishing queue without a reason to exist.
Competitor traffic is an estimate; it has not been checked against those companies' analytics in this review. Do not turn a forecast into a claim about their sales, and do not treat two vendors' difficulty scores as the same scale. SE Ranking's value here is the research workflow and included access, not a demonstrated advantage in data accuracy.
Website Audit for revenue-critical pages
SE Ranking's Website Audit is most useful when you prioritize problems by the pages they affect. Its published checks cover indexability, status codes, security, Core Web Vitals, measures of loading and page experience, and other technical issues, with errors, warnings and notices grouped for review. JavaScript rendering is available for inspecting content produced by scripts. Website Audit features.

For a DTC brand, an important category page accidentally marked noindex deserves attention before an incidental formatting warning on an old announcement. Noindex instructs search engines not to include a page in their index. A sitemap containing such a page expresses conflicting instructions about which pages should be discovered and indexed.
A practical audit starts by choosing the relevant site scope, enabling JavaScript rendering when the pages require it and reviewing indexability and broken paths on commercial pages. Assign each material issue to someone who can change the site. After the repair, rerun the audit and compare findings; use your own search and conversion data to assess whether the affected pages recover.
The public tool page documents weekly or monthly scheduling in the audit settings, plus a manual Restart audit option. That supports a routine after site changes. It does not make every notice equally urgent or establish a promised time to finish a crawl.
Watch the plan ceiling. Growth publishes 2,000,000 audit pages per account per month, but 1,000,000 maximum pages per project. A buyer with one unusually large site cannot assume the entire account allowance can be spent on that site. The plan-specific limits below govern the purchase, even when the feature page advertises a larger overall tool capability. Live audit limits.
SE Ranking AI visibility tracker: turn answers into a work list
SE Ranking's AI Results Tracker is worth considering when you will act on which brands and sources appear in answers to customer questions. Its current documentation lists Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Gemini, ChatGPT and Perplexity, with access on Core, Growth and Enterprise as well as the trial. The reports separate Rankings, Competitors and Sources. Tracker coverage and availability.

For a software founder, a useful prompt set asks the questions buyers ask before choosing a category or supplier. For example, a payroll company might investigate which providers appear in answers about paying international contractors. Track a stable set of relevant questions, inspect competitors and examine the cited pages. Treat these as selected observations of AI answers, not a census of every conversation buyers have.
The three main signals need separate interpretations:
- A brand mention means the configured name appears in an answer. The answer can name the company without linking to it.
- A project link means a cited link matches the tracked site under the project's domain settings. A link can appear without the configured brand name.
- A source is a page or domain cited in an answer. It may belong to a publisher, forum or competitor rather than your own site.
SE Ranking's FAQ also says the link indicator inside the Sources report checks whether the source page links to your site. That is a different event from the AI answer directly citing your URL. Confusing those events can turn a source-research report into an overstated client visibility report. Metric definitions.
A documented setup workflow for a founder
SE Ranking's public setup guide documents this sequence. AI project setup.
Create the website project
Choose Create project, enter the website URL and proceed through the basic details. Select the AI platforms and specify the country, location and brand name for the project.
Add a deliberate prompt set
Add conventional keywords if you also want SEO monitoring, then add prompts to the selected AI platforms. The guide supports manual entry, suggestions and CSV import with a Group column. Group the questions by the buying problem they represent.
Add competitors and inspect the answers
Add competitor domains and finish with Create project. Review Rankings for brand and link presence, Competitors for alternative brands, and the underlying responses before interpreting a change.
Turn cited sources into assigned work
Open Projects > AI Results Tracker > Sources, choose the platform, dates and prompts, and inspect the cited domains or pages. Identify relevant sources that discuss competitors but omit your company. Decide whether your own content needs improvement or a legitimate editorial relationship is worth pursuing.
The Sources documentation supports that investigation and CSV or Excel export. For an agency, the deliverable should be an assigned content or outreach action with its evidence attached. A longer list of citations by itself is not a client outcome.

Read several observations before reacting to a single change. SE Ranking's documentation notes that AI responses and their cited sources vary between checks, and providers can change their models or answer formats. That makes the workflow useful for investigating a trend; it does not justify attributing one missing mention to yesterday's website edit.
SE Ranking pricing: every current plan and published limit
SE Ranking's live subscription page lists Core at $129 monthly or $103.20 per month billed annually, Growth at $279 or $223.20, and Enterprise with custom pricing. These prices and the limits below were verified on 5 October 2026. Annual plans are paid upfront: Core's annual equivalent comes to $1,238.40, and Growth's to $2,678.40. Current SE Ranking pricing.

The table transcribes the page's quantitative Core and Growth allowances. Where the page does not state a period, none is added. In particular, the unusual Core history label is retained exactly as displayed.
Source: the current subscription page. Its “6/mo” history label does not define a clear retention period; confirm the historical dates you need before selecting Core. Growth separately advertises history across the project lifetime.
Both plans list keyword, competitor and backlink research, website and on-page auditing, Google Top 100 tracking, Share of Voice, Projects API, MCP and the listed analytics integrations. An API lets other software request data; MCP lets an AI assistant access connected tool data. Growth adds guest links, page-change monitoring and dedicated customer support. The explicit project, seat and AI-domain limits still apply. Included plan features.
Enterprise has no published fixed allowance to transcribe. The page offers custom limits and pricing, flexible terms, full API and advanced integrations. A larger team should get its required projects, seats, crawl ceiling and AI checks written into the quote.
The same pricing page advertises extra manager seats from $16 on either plan; extra keywords from $22.40 on Core or $32 on Growth; extra articles from $39.20; and extra locations from $18.40. Those are starting prices. The page does not establish one universal quantity or completed invoice for every “from” option.
AI Search, Agency Pack and API add-ons
SE Ranking's entry AI Search add-on costs $89 monthly or $71.20 per month on annual billing. The subscription page labels its selector 200 prompts, with 450 and 1,000 options, and says it includes SE Visible access for 200 prompts. It also describes unlimited AI competitor research. Published add-on offers.
The AI Search add-on help page uses a different unit: 200 checks per month at $89/$71.20, 450 at $179/$143.20, and 1,000 at $345/$276. The second price in each pair is the annual monthly equivalent. This discrepancy is unresolved in the public material reviewed here.
The docs describe SE Visible as a separate strategic AI visibility product included through the add-on. Access requires a separate registration, password setup and manual brand configuration. Budget that onboarding work as well as the subscription; an existing website project does not automatically create the SE Visible brand.
Agency Pack starts at $69 per month with annual billing only. Its entry option is labelled 30 projects and 30 client seats, with white-label platform and reporting, unlimited scheduled reporting, AI summaries, Agency Catalog placement and Lead Generator. Keep client seats separate from the base plan's manager seats when planning who needs editing access.
An agency choosing annual Growth plus that entry Agency Pack pays $292.20 per month equivalent, or $3,506.40 upfront for the year. Spread across a hypothetical 10 active client accounts, that is $29.22 per client per month before other extras. That is a software allocation, not evidence of saved labour or a recommended client fee.
The API add-on starts at $45 per month, annual billing only, with the entry option labelled 3M credits and larger 12M and 60M options shown. That purchase is separate from Core's 25,000 or Growth's 100,000 included monthly Research API credits. An agency exporting into another reporting system should scope the calls it needs before treating the base subscription as its automation budget.
SE Ranking vs Semrush
Semrush Starter is cheaper than SE Ranking Core once Core carries the entry AI add-on: $199 versus $218 monthly, or $165.17 versus $174.40 per month on annual equivalents. SE Ranking's premium is $19 monthly or $9.23 on the annual equivalents. Adding AI capacity reverses the simple “SE Ranking costs less” argument. Semrush's live prices.

That does not make Starter automatically the better purchase. Its published 500 daily keywords are below Core's 2,000, and its 50 daily AI prompts and one AI brand-performance domain may not fit a multi-client requirement. Price the scope you will use, then verify the unit definitions before comparing AI capacity.
Semrush pricing
Semrush's current paid lineup is SEO at $139 monthly or $117.33 annually, Starter at $199/$165.17, Pro+ at $299/$248.17, and Advanced at $549/$455.67. The annual figures are monthly equivalents. Enterprise is custom; a free account is also listed.
SEO publishes 5 monitored websites and 500 daily keywords. Starter keeps those SEO limits and adds the clearly quantified AI package. Pro+ raises capacity to 15 websites, 1,500 daily keywords and 100 daily AI prompts; Advanced lists 40 websites, 5,000 daily keywords and 200 daily AI prompts. Additional users start at $45 monthly, so the base price should not be treated as a completed team bill. Current packages and allowances.
Against Pro+, SE Ranking Growth saves $20 monthly while publishing 30 projects, 3 manager seats and 5,000 daily keywords. That is an attractive agency allocation if those are the limits you need. Semrush earns the difference when its particular research, content and AI workflow reduces other purchases or work. The site's Semrush pricing analysis covers the larger budget; today's vendor page supplies the prices here.
Ahrefs pricing and the AI checks bill
Ahrefs Lite matches Core at $129 monthly, but its base keyword refresh is weekly and its included capacity is 750 tracked keywords. Standard costs $249, with 2,000 tracked keywords, while Advanced is $449 with 5,000. Both also list weekly base keyword refresh. Ahrefs Starter is $29, and Enterprise starts at $1,499 monthly with an annual commitment. Ahrefs' current pricing.

For capacity alone, Core saves $120 a month against Standard's same stated keyword count. Standard's reason to buy is its research feature set, including Content Explorer, Batch Analysis and additional link reports.
Ahrefs Lite includes 5 AI prompts and 150 monthly checks; Standard includes 10 and 300, and Advanced 20 and 600. Its pricing page defines a check as one prompt on one platform in one location. Additional custom-prompt packages cost $50 for 2,500 monthly checks, $100 for 7,000, or $250 for 25,000. Their stated overage rates are $0.020, $0.015 and $0.010 per check, respectively. Standalone Brand Radar AI research starts at $199 monthly; do not silently add that research package to a bill that only needs custom prompt tracking.
The Ahrefs pricing analysis explains the wider plan and add-on choices. For this purchase, distinguish the SEO subscription, included AI checks, extra tracking checks and standalone AI research.
What the subscription buys per unit of SEO monitoring
SE Ranking Core costs $64.50 per 1,000 included keyword slots when its $129 price is divided by its 2,000-keyword allowance. The same normalization gives $398 for Semrush Starter and $172 for Ahrefs Lite. These are capacity ratios derived from the subscription prices, not separately purchasable packages or a ranking of the entire products. Ahrefs Lite also has weekly base updates rather than the daily updates in the other two offers.
For an illustrative agency with 10 sites and 200 tracked keywords per site, the stated keyword total is 2,000. That fits Core's headline project and keyword allowances but leaves only one manager seat and its separate AI constraints. It is a credible solo delivery setup; collaboration and reporting requirements may change the plan before the keyword count does.
The limitations that can change your choice
SE Ranking's main buying limits are account allocation, ambiguous AI units and the gap between visibility metrics and business outcomes. They need to be settled before annual billing commits the budget.
The AI add-on's advertised units do not reconcile
SE Ranking's public pricing and help pages describe the same add-on amounts using different units. “200 prompts” could describe a list allowance; “200 checks per month” describes repeated observations. Those quantities are not interchangeable, and the public documentation does not establish the base plans' complete monthly-check totals either.
Its FAQ defines one check as one prompt on one AI engine. For an illustrative workload, 20 prompts across 3 engines require 60 checks per refresh. Daily checks over an assumed 30-day month require 1,800 checks. Expanding the same set to all 5 engines would require 3,000. These are workload calculations, not a claim that the $89 package covers them. SE Ranking's usage definitions.

Prompt slots are shared, including inactive projects
SE Ranking's FAQ says prompt-list limits are counted across the whole account. A hypothetical agency assigning 10 prompts to each of 10 clients uses 100 slots, rather than getting 100 for each client. The same documentation says paused, archived and inactive projects continue consuming those slots; deleting the prompts or removing the project frees them. Account-wide prompt rules.
That matters during client handover. An agency can stop doing work for a client and still have its account capacity occupied. Include prompt cleanup in offboarding and preserve any required exports before deletion. Increasing the plan should be a deliberate response to active work, rather than the first response to retained old prompts.

Name matching can change the reported brand presence
SE Ranking's docs say mention detection matches the configured brand name against the response, with case-insensitive matching. Mention position is taken from the first configured brand. A company using a short name and a longer legal name therefore needs deliberate configuration; a reported absence can be a naming problem that deserves investigation.
The project's Domain type setting separately governs which links count as belonging to the tracked site. Before telling a founder that AI visibility fell, inspect those settings and the underlying answers. This is a documented interpretation limit, not a measured claim that the tracker is inaccurate. Brand and link matching rules.
One manager seat limits the Core agency workflow
SE Ranking Core includes one manager seat. The pricing FAQ permits only one active session per login, so a shared login is not a workable basis for simultaneous delivery. More users require additional seats or an appropriate higher plan; view-only guest access and the Agency Pack's client seats serve different roles. Seat and session rules.
An agency owner should list who must edit, who must review and who only needs a report. Growth's three included manager seats may solve the first requirement, while Agency Pack adds a separate annual cost for the branded client-facing workflow.
The crawl total and the history label need closer reading
SE Ranking Growth's 2,000,000 monthly account audit pages still sit behind a 1,000,000-page project maximum. Core has a 250,000-page account allowance and the same per-project ceiling. A large ecommerce buyer needs to budget for the scope of one site as well as the account total.
Core's research-history entry is printed as “6/mo”; Growth's is “All time.” The ambiguous Core label is insufficient evidence for a particular history-retention promise. If trend research over older dates drives the purchase, confirm the available period instead of inferring it from the slash. Published ceilings and history labels.
Visibility cannot establish ROI by itself
SE Ranking can surface answers, mentions, citations and search positions. This public-page review does not establish how faithfully its datasets represent all searches or AI conversations, and no independent accuracy experiment was performed.
For a growth lead, keep the observation and the outcome separate. A cited source can generate no visit; a visit can generate no enquiry; an enquiry can fail to become a customer. Use your own analytics and customer records to investigate the progression. Paying for AI visibility is justified by decisions it improves, not by treating its dashboard percentage as attributable revenue.
Verdict: choose the workflow before the add-on
SE Ranking Core is the strongest starting choice here for a founder or solo agency operator whose main requirement is daily SEO monitoring, research and audits within its published limits. At $129 monthly, it offers more stated keyword capacity than the same-price Ahrefs Lite plan and costs less than Semrush Starter. The recommendation follows the operating budget and documented workflow.
Move to Growth when you need its included collaboration or account capacity. Thirty projects, three manager seats and 5,000 daily keywords create a clear operational reason for the $279 monthly bill. Buy Agency Pack only when the branded reporting and client-facing tools are part of the service you deliver.
The choice flips for an AI-led purchase. Confirm SE Ranking's total check allowance first. If Core requires the entry AI add-on and Semrush Starter meets your required scope, Starter has the lower subscription price. Choose Ahrefs Standard when its link and content research tools are the reason the account will be opened each week.
On Monday, write down the websites, editing users, tracked keywords and buying questions you will monitor. Add the AI engines and refresh frequency, calculate the checks required, and use SE Ranking's 14-day trial to validate your own setup. Ask for the unresolved quota mapping before committing annually. The discount should follow a proven fit with your workload.
