Immersive training made tangible, and measurable.

MaiaZura builds immersive VR teamwork training for healthcare teams, rooted in UNC research and shown to improve communication and patient safety. I built its web presence and the system behind the promise: a benchmarking platform where healthcare organizations measure their teamwork performance against their peers.

Overview

Selling an experience you cannot screenshot, then proving it.

Immersive VR training is powerful in a headset and hard to convey on a flat web page. The site had to communicate the feeling and the evidence at once: realistic scenarios, measurable skill transfer, and published research.

Evidence is also a product. Alongside the site sits a two-portal benchmark system: MaiaZura's team administers organizations, assessment categories, and data intake in one portal, and each healthcare organization sees its own performance benchmarked against peers in the other. The methodology stays private; the results speak.

The challenge

An experiential product, and a claim that needed a system.

MaiaZura's value is felt inside a VR headset, which a website cannot reproduce, and its promise, better teamwork, is only credible if it can be measured. The challenge was double: convey the intensity of immersive training with research credibility, and build the benchmarking machinery that turns training into comparable, organization-level numbers.

Where it hurt
  • An immersive experience that flat pages cannot show
  • Clinical buyers who need evidence, not hype
  • Performance data that must stay private per organization
  • A scoring methodology that cannot be exposed

The approach

What I built, and how it came together.

The buildAn evidence-led site, and a two-portal benchmark platform.

MaiaZura cover

The public site conveys the experience and the research. The platform gives MaiaZura an admin portal for organizations and data intake, and gives each organization a private view of where it stands.

  • Experience-led storytelling for the VR training
  • Research and evidence sections
  • Admin portal: organizations, invitations, configurable assessment categories
  • Benchmark portal: each organization's performance against its peers
  • Server-side scoring and recalculation, private by design
How it was built
  1. 01Convey the experience

Use motion and imagery to suggest what a headset cannot show on the page.Concept · Design system · Media direction

  2. 02Foreground the evidence

Put the UNC research and skill-transfer results front and center.Research sections · Stats · Citations

  3. 03Build the benchmark system

Two portals on one database: admin control of organizations, categories, and intake, and a private benchmark view per organization.Admin portal · Client portal · Scoring engine

  4. 04Keep the method private

Scoring and recalculation run server-side; organizations see their standing, never each other's data or the formula.Access control · Data isolation · Recalculation

Under the hood

Benchmarking that shows the standing, never the secrets.

Two portals, one truth

MaiaZura's team runs an admin portal: create organizations, invite their people, configure the assessment categories, and load performance data. Each healthcare organization signs into its own portal and sees one thing clearly: how its teamwork performance benchmarks against its peer group.

Privacy as the architecture

Organizations are isolated from each other by construction. Peer comparison is computed server-side and delivered as standing, not as anyone else's raw data. The scoring methodology itself never leaves the server, which protects both client confidentiality and MaiaZura's intellectual property.

Built to be re-run

Benchmarks are not a one-off report. Data intake and recalculation are first-class operations, so as new assessments land, every organization's standing updates from the same pipeline, with no spreadsheet step in between.

From headset to number

Assessment data flows from training into the same benchmarking pipeline, closing the loop the company sells: train the team, measure the change, compare it to peers, and repeat.

The result

An experience made legible, and an outcome made measurable.

The site gives MaiaZura a credible, evidence-forward home, and the benchmark platform turns its core promise into numbers an organization can track. The research figures below are MaiaZura's own.
